Our Journey

Timeline

Hollingbourne Station opened on 1st July 1884, as part of the London, Chatham and Dover railways extension of the line from Maidstone to Ashford west. Servicing commuters from the village and nearby area.

It has direct services to Ashford International and London Victoria.

The station was unmanned, with the ticket office building closed for around 30 years.

The Kent Community Rail Partnership which is hosted by Sustrans – www.sustrans.org.uk flagged Hollingbourne Station as a potential site for community use in February 2021, and we put together our proposal for the station, without ever having been inside.

April 2021 when we learned that Hollingbourne Station had been accepted.

It wasn’t until November of that year that we managed to gain access to see inside the site

In February 2022 a Community Interest Company was set up to steer the project and formulate a viable plan for future use of the building.

A programme of refurbishment started in February 2022. The first official event was held in May 2023, to celebrate both the working partnership between the stakeholders and the amazing rejuvenation and history of the station building and of the wider village community.
